The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta We took a detour from the normal route to hit Atlanta to see the world's largest aquarium. It was worth the trip. There were tanks that were over 2 stories tall containing all kinds of fish, sharks, rays, and other fish. There were all kinds of water creatures like seals, penguins, otters, beluga whales. The most amazing thing though was the size of the tinks and their shapes...huge over head tanks that made you feel like you were walking underwater, a tunnel through one of the tanks, buble shaped domes, open touch and feel tanks....the pictures really don't do the aquaruim justice/
The lobby is huge and opens up into the various sections of the aquaruim...exhibits, cafe, and gift shop. They take a picture when you enter which you can purchase inside. Ours was really nice looking but it cost $20 US....eep. Pass.
Big Tank The first huge tank we saw actually had waves crashing up high above us. There were tons of tropical fish swimming about.
Sea Jellies Beautiful sea jellies in a crystal clear tank. These ones were about dinner plate sized (their heads)
Bubble Dome This dome looked into the same tank that the underwater tunnel did (see pics below for the Underwater Tunnel) It was about 12 feet across.
Underwater Tunnel There is a conveyor belt that slowly takes you through the underwater tunnel where you can see fish, rays, huge whale sharks, hammerheads, sawfish sharks and so on...it was awesome.
Three story tall viewing window. This is the same tank that had the underwater tunnel through it. It was HUGE! Every so often a huge whale shark (they're about 20 feet I think) passed by.
Beluga "Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea..." They had two belugas in the tank..one of them was pregnant. The girls really loved watching them swim about.
Spider Crab Under glowing red lights the huge (maybe 3 feet) spider crabs were crawling about. (no flashes allowed hence the blurry shot...our video should look better.
The River The riv er section of the aquarium was set up to look like a swampy back water southern river system. There were tanks full of fish as well as what looked like one huge tank overhead the entire exhibit. It really felt like we were under water.
Piranhas A tank of them...not swimming...just hovering motionless. In a place full of moving fish you might almost think they were fake.
Penguins and more. There were exhibits with penguins, otters, seals and other mammals.
Fleeing Atlanta before the nasty rush hour traffic hit.
