Our Thoughts

Thursday March 30, 2006

We have had a very enjoyable last few days with a baby, but not our twins. Our little nephew "Smilin' Jack Mac" is in town with his Mom and Dad (Scott & Marianne). They flew in as a surprise for Jen's parents' 40th anniversary which is this weekend.

Jen and I had arranged to go for lunch on Monday with Scott and Mare showing up as the surprise. So we go for lunch and keep them occupied in the kitchen. Scott and Marianne show up about 10 minutes later, place Jack in his carseat right in front of the door and ring the doorbell. I had just gotten Jen's dad away from the front window so he didn't see them arrive. Jen's mom went to the door and opened it. All I could hear from upstairs was her saying "It's a baby". She didn't know who it was at first because Jack should be like 2000 KM away. I think she then spotted Scott videotaping her and then the surprise was out. It was awesome. They were so thrilled to have their Grandson here for a week.

Here are some pictures of Jack. He is such a good baby. Always happy and smiling, hence his nickname. We are hoping the Twins will be as well behaved as he is. I believe Jen has another appointment with the baby doc next Monday. We'll keep you all posted. Have a great week.

We visited the baby doc today and she said all is well. Babies are growing perfectly and are right on target for a Mid to late May delivery. Both babies are still head down but they are no longer spooning. They are facing each other now. I think one baby was sick of being punched and kicked from behind so it swung around so it can fight back! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! We have another ultrasound scheduled for the 2nd week of April and we now start visiting the Doctor every 2 weeks.

So I have this wacky Ultrasound Technologist. I don't know his name but it's the same guy each time I go, even though he always laughs when I show up and tries to pass me off on one of the other technologists (It seems twins are a pain to measure).

Personally I like having him...he's quite entertaining. He talks a lot to the babies and to himself. When he has to push on my belly to move one of the twins out of the way to get a reading/measurement on something in behind them, he always asks me "Am I killing you yet?" It's an understandable question when he has to push down so hard but at the same time it's so oddly phrased I can't help but laugh. At one of my appointments while he pushed on the twins with one hand and moved the scanner with the other I had to actually reach up and press the button on his consule to capture the image he needed. It was a co-operative effort!

It's always fun to go see him and he always gives us lots of pictures of our babies.

Dad here again...We've just got home from our Week 27 ultrasound. Wow! They are really growing. You could see everything so much more clearly this time. There was one shot where we could see the profile of the babies face along with part of it's body and then you could see the knees curled up just above the chest. Really cool! We could see that they were both getting much bigger too. We will get the results of the Ultrasound next Wednesday at our appt. with Dr. Ruggles. Last night we were playing the belly button game with one of them. If we pushed on Jen's belly button, one of them would kick and push right back. It was pretty funny. They were pretty strong kicks too. Maybe we have little soccer players in there...or they are good skating legs! Yeah that sounds more like it.

Mom's first post! Have you ever placed a hand on the botton of the plastic bag filled with water and about 40 goldfish? Can you remember the feeling of those fish hitting the sides of the bag unaware that they are contained? That's how my tummy feels with A and B going about their daily shifting, turning, booting, poking, and rubbing.

It's a really cool sensation and also really ODD one.

Happy Tuesday! Been a fairly busy couple of days. We've had some baby clothes and a bouncy chair given to us by Jen's friend Elyssa.

On Monday we went and bought a crib. We're thinking that putting both babies together in one crib will be better. Once they are too big then we'll have to get another one I guess. I put the crib together today in our front room, only to find that we couldn't get it through the doorway and into the hall. CRAP! So after removing the door to give us a few extra inches we get it through. All problems solved right? WRONG! Now we can't get it around the tight corner and into the nursery. You would think that we would have given this some though before hand. We then have to take the crib apart and then put it back together in the babies' room. What a pain. But fun nonetheless.

We also wanted to pass along our congratulations to Jen's cousin Alex and his wife Susan on the birth of their first baby today.

Hey all. Dad posting here. Well we just passed Week 26. I'm finding that the reality of it all is starting to hit a little more each day. Jen is getting bigger (in a good way)and we are getting the nursery together slowly. We have both bassinets now and the baby clothes collection is starting to fill up the cupboard. We just need to get the curtains up and the pictures up on the wall and the room should be ready for use. We are hoping that the babies can make it until Week 37 before they are born so we are really only about 11 weeks away. I can't wait!
